Jodie L. Brinkmann

Assistant Professor of Practice

Dr. Brinkmann is currently an Assistant Professor of Practice at Virginia Tech in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Studies in the School of Education. She is the program coordinator for the Education Leadership Program, serving graduate students in both the Program for the Preparation of School Principals and Supervisors (M.A. and Ed.S.) and previously coordinated the Doctorate Program in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies (Ed.D. and Ph.D.). Prior to coming to VT, she was an Assistant Professor in the School of Education at Longwood University serving undergraduate students in the Teacher Preparation Program. She also served for twenty nine years in K-12 public education including positions as an elementary teacher, mathematics coach, assistant principal, and principal for more than 11 years.

Dr. Brinkmann’s research interests include curriculum and instructional leadership, exceptional education (specifically collaboration and co-teaching), and phenomenological research investigating problems in K-12 education. Dr. Brinkmann also works on a USAID grant specifically with 21PSTEM working with Egyptian professors developing their STEM School Principal Preparation Programs. She served as president for the Virginia Education Research Association and is currently the treasurer and is an executive board member and treasurer for the International Society for Educational Planning. She also recently served on the executive board for the Virginia Professors of Educational Leadership.
